We seek an enthusiastic self-starter full-time legal assistant.<\/p>

ABOUT THE ROLE:<\/strong><\/p>

Reporting directly to the Director of Case Management and Client Strategy, this role will assist the Director on assigned lawyers\u2019 client matters, including but not limited to processing highly confidential information and seeking additional information where necessary, preparing and drafting legal documents and correspondence for immigration applications, preparing administrative materials for tribunals and courts, maintaining a high degree of professionalism and liaison with various clients.<\/p>

ABOUT YOU:<\/strong><\/p>

You are self-motivated, proactive and a reliable stabilizer. You will provide a second eye or a solid first draft to ensure accuracy and precision in our field, which is becoming increasingly dependent on our exceptional attention to detail. You will develop professional relationships with clients to keep them in the loop throughout the working process and \u2018work ahead\u2019 of lawyers.<\/p>

WHAT YOU\u2019LL DO:<\/strong><\/p>

The successful candidate will perform various duties, including but not limited to:<\/p>

  • Prepare, index, and file disclosure documents in compliance with the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) and applicable Court Rules.<\/li>
  • Draft professional correspondence, including emails, letters, and faxes to government agencies and stakeholders.<\/li>
  • Complete immigration forms accurately, cross-reference information, and organize supporting documentation for submission.<\/li>
  • Prepare and monitor Access to Information and Privacy (ATIP) requests to federal and provincial government bodies.<\/li>
  • Conduct research on country conditions and compile relevant documentation for client matters.<\/li>
  • Collaborate with assigned lawyer(s) to manage client files and workload effectively.<\/li>
  • Maintain a bring-forward system to track deadlines and ensure timely follow-up on all matters.<\/li>
  • Communicate with clients via email, video calls, phone, and in-person meetings.<\/li>
  • Organize and manage electronic client files, including processing incoming faxes and correspondence.<\/li>
  • Record and log messages and communication between government agencies and the office.<\/li>
  • Update client information and case progress in internal case management software.<\/li>
  • Coordinate third-party services for client files, including interpreters, translators, and courier services.<\/li>
  • Respond to phone calls and intake inquiries in a timely and professional manner as needed.<\/li><\/ul>

    REMUNERATION AND BENEFITS:<\/strong><\/p>

    • $25 \u2013 $30\/hour (timesheet bi-weekly) depending on experience<\/li>
    • Extended health and dental benefits after three months of full-time employment<\/li>

      QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:<\/strong><\/p>

      • Minimum of two years\u2019 experience as a legal assistant preferred.<\/li>
      • Completion of a recognized legal assistant program or equivalent professional experience.<\/li>
      • Immigration-specific training or program completion is considered an asset.<\/li>
      • Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse cultural backgrounds and marginalized communities.<\/li>
      • Self-starter with a proactive work ethic, and a team player with excellent customer service skills.<\/li>
      • Highly organized and detail-oriented, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and completeness in all tasks.<\/li>
      • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.<\/li>
      • Ability to multi-task and quickly adjust priorities to meet unexpected or competing deadlines.<\/li>
      • Strong sense of integrity and accountability.<\/li>
      • Fluency or professional working proficiency of a second language is an asset<\/li>
      • Understanding of the following is an asset: issues facing queer and transgender communities, experiences of communities facing persecution, persons who experience mental health issues, as well as the areas of immigration, refugee, constitutional, and human rights.<\/li><\/ul>
