Study permit applications often represent some of the most difficult applications in immigration, as they involve factors outside of the applicant’s control – e.g. the refusal rates from a country of citizenship or residence, immigration status in the country of application, and assessments of the purpose of study and family ties (push and pull factors).

Once studies are complete, and if eligible, an international graduate is eligible to apply for a post-graduate work permit. Students that have not maintained full-time studies throughout the duration of their program (other than the final semester) may find themselves having difficulty applying for a post-graduate work permit. Those who are refused and lose status often have challenges restoring their status.
