Hi everyone, my name is Hamidreza, and I’m thrilled to have recently joined Heron Law Offices as an Immigration and Refugee lawyer.
My journey began in Iran, where I initially set out to study construction engineering. However, life had other plans. Despite receiving an acceptance letter from a prestigious medical school, I chose the third path—one that led me to law school. Fast forward 12 years, and I was standing at the University of Tehran, defending my PhD thesis in public international law, with several years of legal practice behind me.
In Iran, I was practicing across various areas of law, including criminal, commercial, and family law. But then, life took another turn. My wife and I decided to embark on a new adventure—immigrating to Canada. And if moving halfway across the world wasn’t challenging enough, we did it right in the middle of the pandemic! The lockdown was a perfect opportunity for me to open my books again, this time focusing on the Canadian common law.
I began a Master’s degree at UBC, which also paved the way for me to obtain my license to practice law in Canada. I’m incredibly grateful to have been part of the inaugural cohort of the Everyone Legal Clinic, where I completed my articling. During this time, I had the opportunity to provide pro bono, low bono, and unbundled legal services, assisting individuals who needed legal help but couldn’t afford it.
After being called to the Bar in British Columbia, I explored various fields of law, but I always knew that immigration law was my true calling. As a first-generation immigrant, I understand firsthand the challenges of starting over in a new country. I’ve lived through the complexities of the immigration process and know what it’s like to rebuild a career in a second language, often within a system that can feel overwhelming.
I’ve experienced what many of my clients are going through—trying to prove themselves to immigration officers, employers, and even the community while navigating a new culture, often without the support network they had back home. I understand the frustration of submitting applications with uncertainty, hoping they’ll be reviewed fairly—if they are reviewed at all! I also know how disheartening it can be when your non-Canadian qualifications and experience are questioned, and your prior accomplishments don’t seem to carry the weight they once did.
Today, I am proud to be part of the incredible team at Heron Law Offices, where we are dedicated to helping people from all over the world realize their dream of immigrating to Canada. Our mission is not only to guide clients through their immigration journeys but also to empower them to challenge unjust decisions. More importantly, we try our best to make the immigration process fairer and more accessible for everyone.

داستان فعالیت های حرفه ای من از ایران شروع میشه، وقتی که من شروع به تحصیل در رشته مهندسی عمران کردم و بعد بین رشته پزشکی در یکی از دانشگاه های معتبر ایران و رشته حقوق، مسیر حقوق رو انتخاب کردم. دوازده سال بعد، از رساله دکتری در رشته حقوق بین الملل عمومی و در حالی که سال ها تجربه فعالیت حقوقی به دست آورده بودم، در دانشگاه تهران دفاع کردم
توی ایران من در زمینه های مختلف، مثل حقوق تجاری، کیفری و خانواده فعالیت میکردم، تا اینکه من و همسرم مسیر مهاجرت به کانادا رو انتخاب کردیم. انگار که مهاجرت از قاره ای به قاره دیگه به اندازه کافی سخت نباشه، ما این کار رو در میانه پاندمی کرونا انجام دادیم. ممنوعیت های رفت و آمد فرصت مناسبی به من داد تا دوباره به سراغ درس خوندن برم؛ این بار حقوق کامن لا کشور کانادا
من به دانشگاه بریتیش کلمبیا رفتم و یک مدرک فوق لیسانس مجدد در رشته حقوق دریافت کردم. بسیار شکرگزارم که این فرصت به من داده شد تا به عنوان عضو اولین دوره کارآموزان موسسه اوری وان لیگال کلینیک، کارآموزی حقوقی خودم رو اونجا تکمیل کنم و بتونم به افراد با نیازهای مالی خاص خدمات رایگان و کم هزینه حقوقی ارایه کنم
بعد از دریافت پروانه وکالت دادگستری در استان بریتیش کلمبیا، زمینه های مختلف حقوقی رو تجربه کردم؛ اما ندای درون من همیشه من رو به سمت حقوق مهاجرت می برد. به عنوان اولین نسل مهاجر در خانواده خودم، من چالش های مهاجرت و ساخت زندگی مجدد در کشور جدید رو تجربه و زندگی کردم. من می دونم و تجربه کردم که چقدر بدست آوردن جایگاه حرفه ای در کشور جدید و با زبان و چالش های جدید می تونه سخت باشه
من تجربه موکلین خودم رو درک میکنم، تلاش مکرر برای اثبات خود به آفیسر اداره مهاجرت، کارفرما، و حتی جامعه، در حالی که باید خودشون رو با فرهنگ جدید تطبیق بدن و از حمایتی که در جامعه ی قبلی هم داشتن محروم هستن
من میدونم که سابمیت کردن یک پرونده مهاجرتی چه مقدار میتونه چالش برانگیز و سرشار از ابهام باشه، به این امید که پرونده شما به صورت منصفانه ای بررسی بشه؛ اگر واقعا بررسی بشه! من این رو هم میدونم که چقدر تجربه های غیر کانادایی شما یا اعتبار و مدرکی که در کشور خودتون بدست آوردین ممکنه اینجا و در این مسیر بی ارزش تلقی بشه و چقدر این موضوع میتونه ناامید کننده باشه
امروز من خوشحال و مفتخرم که به عنوان عضوی از تیم با سابقه و معتبر هرون به موکل های خودم از سراسر دنیا کمک میکنم به رویای مهاجرت به کانادا واقعیت بدن. افتخار ما اینه که به موکلین خودمون این قدرت و شجاعت رو میدیم که با تصمیم های ناعادلانه ای که در مورد پرونده اون ها گرفته شده بجنگند. و از همه مهم تر، ما همه تلاشمون رو میکنیم که فرایند مهاجرت رو برای همه عادلانه بکنیم و دسترسی همه به عدالت رو در این مسیر افزایش بدیم.
