Hello! My name is Caitlyn Waterhouse, and I’m excited to be working as a legal intern with Heron Law Offices this summer.
I grew up on a farm in rural Saskatchewan and later moved to British Columbia to attend Simon Fraser University. There, I majored in International Studies with a concentration in International Development, Economic, and Environmental issues. I also completed a second major in English Literature as I love to write.
Alongside my studies, I had the chance to work as an assistant policy analyst with the B.C. Climate Action Secretariat researching provincial decarbonization efforts. This experience deepened my understanding of the challenges involved in curbing industrial emissions and the broader complexities of global environmental challenges. I continued exploring these issues in my honours thesis, which focused on deep decarbonization pathways for industry.
I am particularly interested in the nexus of environmental change and migration, and I hope to be a part of efforts to facilitate a just, equitable transition to a low carbon economy. In the future, I plan to pursue environmental or human rights law in the hope of advocating for positive change in these areas.
Outside of my professional interests, I enjoy playing volleyball, reading, and spending time in nature.
I’m very much looking forward to learning more about the landscape of immigration and refugee law in Canada through my work with Heron. Thank you for reading!
